Sierra Composites typically gets inquiries regarding custom carbon fiber parts and other advanced composites fabrication. While we do not fabricate custom parts for a Honda Civic or similar products. We do have the capability of fabricating one off custom carbon fiber parts such as a large scale carbon fiber square tube, round tubing, oval tubing, airfoil etc. We can produce these composite parts using just about any fabrics from 8HS carbon fiber to 3K twill, Basalt fabric hybrids to Hexply prepreg. An example below is an image of one of the carbon fiber half spheres we manufactured for use in Haptics applications. If you have a project that needs a custom carbon fiber part, please contact Sierra Composites

The photo below shows a great example of a .041″ thick custom carbon fiber sheet interor dash part. This part was fabricated to have some slight curves to it, but basically it is fabricated using .041″ carbon fiber sheet. It is a good example of a lightweight switch, circuit breaker custom panel that can be made using Sierra Composites carbon fiber composites materials available here at our store.

Carbon fiber custom dash

Sierra Composites has supplied customers carbon fiber sheet to build custom dash gauge and switch panels for the custom street cars as well as race cars. We are regularily asked what thickness of carbon fiber sheet should I use to build my custom dash with. There are really only two choices depending on what you are building. The first option is our .041″ carbon sheet thickness, this is a perfect thickness for a small panel with a switch and a lightweight gauge or two that has some basic mounting support such as in a street car console area would have. But for a complete custom dash with regular gauges you would need to use our .059″ carbon fiber sheet. This material can use a larger span between the mounting and support and is overall stronger to handle full size gauges. The .059″ sheet is what our race car customers regularily use when building their dash gauge cluster.
You could also use our Basalt fiber / Carbon fiber hybrids as a lower cost alternative.

Sierra Composites has built and repaired pro racing carbon fiber undertrays. This Mercedes Benz CLK GTR has removable carbon fiber strakes on its front splitter undertray. It also illustrates the outer curved strakes directing airflow around the leading edge of the front tires. It takes special experience and knowledge to work on expensive prototype race car parts such as these. Contact Sierra Composites for this specialized work.

carbon fiber square tube - light - strong - straight

Recently Sierra Composites launched its 3″ carbon fiber square tube and then its 2″ carbon fiber square tube. After months of prototyping our finished tubing is really a great product. While this large scale carbon fiber tubing is not cheap, it does have at least one critical application where a carbon fiber tube must be lightweight, strong and straight, and may as well have a great finish look to it. For metrology services, these are the requirements. When a carbon fiber structure such as an aircraft wing, or tail or fuselage must be accurately measured, it must also be measured using tooling that has the same expansion co-effecient as the part being measured. Obviously only carbon fiber can meet the requirement, and just as obvious metals such as aluminum can not as they easily expand and contract with heat and cold. The tooling weight can also play a major factor on the jobsite when a metrology service must transport and setup the measuring tools, even our currently largest carbon fiber square tube at 3″ x 3″ and 84″ long weighs only 6lbs.
