Sierra Composites has just released its newest addition to its motorsports line of products. The Mini carbon fiber dive plane set. Due to feedback from our customers who wanted a carbon fiber dive plane option that gives less downforce than our regular full size dive planes.
High performance down-force MINI trimming dive planes are typically used to balance the front aerodynamics of a race car or street car that may already be modified with our larger GT3DP dive planes or a rear wing or other rear aerodynamic device. Alternatively they can be used on their own, as the downforce generated is smaller compared to our regular full size dive planes and will not greatly effect a cars handling. Our GT3DPM model features a small surface area, as molded optimum 125 degree slope angle when mounted at 0 degree angle of incidence. Our GT3DPM MINI trim dive planes are completely molded on all sides which makes them unique and unlike anything else on the market. They feature a smooth matte finish, just like authentic competition racing parts. Each dive plane is mounted with one 1 3/8″ long carbon fiber mounting tabs that have been bonded with aircraft epoxy to the dive plane underside. This mounting tab method eliminates any extra unsightly screws protruding on the surface of the dive plane, and provides a balanced counter force to the trimming downforce the MINI dive planes will generate.
Dimensions: 2mm thick, 1.5mm thick mounting feet with 3M placement aid adhesive, 8″ long, 1/4″ edge up to 2″ edge. These can be mounted in two ways, with the larger or smaller edge facing forward.

High speed carbon fiber robot end arm = faster production + reliablity

Sierra Composites continues to work with plastic cup, CD, DVD and other manufacturers that utilize high speed robotics. Replacing a heavy aluminum end of arm tool with a carbon fiber part generally reduces the weight of that part by 50%. This gives your robot the ability to run faster generating more units in the same run time. Switching over to a carbon fiber end of arm tool is also much easier on the machine itself, since it now only has to move half the weight as it did the heavy metal part. This benefit decreases the mechanical breakdowns and repair times of your automated machines, this also adds to number of units produced while reducing capital spent on machine repairs. Sierra Composites can work with you to update your manufacturing robots with carbon fiber parts.

New! Carbon Fiber front wheel well lip downforce spoliers

The second product in Sierra Composites new motorsport parts aerodynamics line. Carbon fiber front wheel well lip downforce spoilers for race and tuned street cars. Used to fine tune a cars front aerodynamics to give more front downforce, they redirect airflow to the front wheels as well as create more surface area for airflow to push downforce on. Initially used to gain an advantage under certain racing rules regulating chassis width. However they do work and were successfully used on the Mercedes Benz CLK GTR as seen in photos below.

When rules allowed these to be molded into the race car front chassis they were, see the ALMS P2 Lola Mazda photo below:

Carbon fiber wheel well lip spoilers have been used in several racing series throughout the years, including German DTM, Austrailian touring cars, Grand Am prototype / GT, ALMS prototype GT, etc.

New! Carbon Fiber Dive Planes / Front Bumper Canards / Aerodynamics

Just released from Sierra Composites! Our new SC Aero GT3 carbon fiber front dive planes, also sometimes incorrectly called bumper canards. Sierra Composites has fabricated custom race dive planes for years, but this is the first time we have developed a race style dive plane that can also be used on a street car, are universal fit and are not race car parts prices. A simple google search will give all kinds of results for “dive planes” or “bumper canards”, however these parts are either cheap plastic with maybe a carbon fiber thin insert for looks but sold funny enough as carbon fiber. Or aluminum parts covered with “carbon fiber”, or cheap polyester / fiberglass imitation parts. Most of these imitation dive planes also have many types of fasteners showing over the surfaces, have mounting areas that are just too small, and have no proper way of securing them to your car. Overall they are just not practical dive planes.
Details on the SC Aero GT3 carbon fiber dive planes can be found on our store website www.sierracomposites.com

GREEN carbon fiber color sheets

Sierra Composites has just introduced its GREEN color carbon fiber sheets. Sierra Composites is the only manufacturer of this product. Unlike traditional Kevlar/Carbon hybrid weaves, our sheets do not have one color fiber strand woven to a black strand, nor do they have workability issues that Kevlar fibers present. Our new Green carbon fiber sheets have a more subtle look and can reflect a lighter or darker green depending on the light source. Currently these are available in our .015″ sheets only. However we can manufacture any of our products to have the same green color look. Contact us with questions about that.

Carbon fiber custom dash

Sierra Composites has supplied customers carbon fiber sheet to build custom dash gauge and switch panels for the custom street cars as well as race cars. We are regularily asked what thickness of carbon fiber sheet should I use to build my custom dash with. There are really only two choices depending on what you are building. The first option is our .041″ carbon sheet thickness, this is a perfect thickness for a small panel with a switch and a lightweight gauge or two that has some basic mounting support such as in a street car console area would have. But for a complete custom dash with regular gauges you would need to use our .059″ carbon fiber sheet. This material can use a larger span between the mounting and support and is overall stronger to handle full size gauges. The .059″ sheet is what our race car customers regularily use when building their dash gauge cluster.
You could also use our Basalt fiber / Carbon fiber hybrids as a lower cost alternative.

Sierra Composites has fabricated these type of aero devices used to trim up your aerodynamic package. We can produce small numbers of these at very reasonable prices, so you don’t need to spend a fortune on factory parts.

New light weight light duty carbon fiber angle - LDA-

Due to numerous requests from customers Sierra Composites has just released its new Light Duty Carbon Fiber Angle or LDA. The new carbon fiber angle is manufactured to a thickness of .024″ thickness, has a wall length of 1 1/2″ and is available in two lengths, 24″ and 48″ long. This will be the only dimensions we will be producing, that allows us to give the best possible price to our customers. The angle is so easy to work with and easily cut with heavy scissors or tin snips, it made no sense to us to have any other sizes. Why not just produce the largest size for a great price and let the customer cut the angle as needed. We have customers who want two different angle wall lengths and with this new light duty carbon fiber angle they can easily cut that. Price for the 24″ long angle is $31.95 and 48″ long is $62.95.
You can link directly to the 24″ long carbon fiber angle here and the 48″ long angle here.
