High speed carbon fiber robot end arm = faster production + reliablity

Sierra Composites continues to work with plastic cup, CD, DVD and other manufacturers that utilize high speed robotics. Replacing a heavy aluminum end of arm tool with a carbon fiber part generally reduces the weight of that part by 50%. This gives your robot the ability to run faster generating more units in the same run time. Switching over to a carbon fiber end of arm tool is also much easier on the machine itself, since it now only has to move half the weight as it did the heavy metal part. This benefit decreases the mechanical breakdowns and repair times of your automated machines, this also adds to number of units produced while reducing capital spent on machine repairs. New! Carbon Fiber front wheel well lip downforce spoliers

The second product in Sierra Composites new motorsport parts aerodynamics line. Carbon fiber front wheel well lip downforce spoilers for race and tuned street cars. Used to fine tune a cars front aerodynamics to give more front downforce, they redirect airflow to the front wheels as well as create more surface area for airflow to push downforce on. Initially used to gain an advantage under certain racing rules regulating chassis width. However they do work and were successfully used on the Mercedes Benz CLK GTR as seen in photos below.

Carbon fiber wheel well lip spoilers have been used in several racing series throughout the years, including German DTM, Austrailian touring cars, Grand Am prototype / GT, ALMS prototype GT, etc.

Sierra Composites at Brumos Porsche 250 race weekend

Sierra Composites will be back to its racing roots this week. We will be working with a couple Grand Am prototype teams on some carbon fiber aero devices. This race track work is the final step for us before we release our “street versions” of one of these aerodynamic racing devices… Stay tuned…

Carbon fiber 90mm EDF motor mount modification

Sierra Composites is a large supplier to the radio control community, as it has so many uses that it is best suited for. The example here is an excellent use of our carbon fiber .059″ sheet material as a motor mount repair / strengthening application on a 90mm EDF fan unit.  These EDF fans can turn in the 40,000 rpm range, and even with proper balancing cause some vibrations. The motor for this fan is a KD-36-74 and weighs 390 grams, it needs a solid motor mount. The stock motor mount in this Haoye 90mm fan unit is a weak spot and can not take motor heat in the 170 degF  range along with some vibrations. The mount design is weak to begin with. Our carbon fiber sheet was used to strengthen up that mount as shown in the photos. The carbon backup disc is bonded to the original plastic fan housing to become one complete part with the housing.

These 1.2mm compliment our recently released 2.2mm double sided smooth / glossy plate sheets are very rigid and are well suited to small R/C structural parts such as shock towers and brackets. Asymmetric carbon fiber angle

Do you require carbon fiber angle that is longer on one side than the other? Sierra Composites is now fabricating asymmetric carbon fiber angle. The same great high quality carbon fiber angle we have fabricated for years but with two different side lengths. Currently the maximum side length you can purchase is 2 1/2″ long and the minimum is 1/2″ long, and the overal length of the angle is available in our standard lengths of 12″ / 24″ / 36″ / 48″. We are working on a simple product calcuator that will be available on our online store at www.sierracomposites.com but until then you can easily use our contact form for any inquires. Pricing for the asymetric angle is the same as a standard equal side length for the longest side.

Sierra Composites has been manufacturing custom sized carbon fiber sheets and sandwich panels for our customers for many years. If your project requires a size that you can not find in our standard size sheets, all you need to do is contact us with your requirements. We will get back to you asap with a pricing quote. Many times we can make your sheet along with others orders we are already working on. So don’t think your custom sized sheet or panel is going to cost more.
